A London man has been sentenced to 13 years behind bars after a fatal road rage incident in Surrey led to the death of a father-of-seven.
Neil Sullingston, 53, of Orpington, was convicted of manslaughter after he intentionally rammed his vehicle into a moped on the A244 towards Esher. The collision, which occurred in the early hours of 1 July 2024, claimed the life of 36-year-old Wayne Wigley.
At approximately 6.19am, dashcam and CCTV footage captured the horrifying moment that sealed Mr Wigley’s fate.
As the pair neared the traffic lights at the Milbourne Lane junction, Mr Wigley hurled a rock at the rear of Sullingston’s white Seat Ibiza, shattering the back window.
Moments later, Mr Wigley veered into the right filter lane ahead of the traffic. Sullingston followed closely, driving directly behind him. Without braking or attempting to avoid impact, he ploughed into the moped from behind.
The force of the crash threw Mr Wigley from his scooter. His injuries were catastrophic — including a severed leg and severe internal trauma. Despite the immediate response from bystanders, including an off-duty police officer, paramedic and firefighter, Mr Wigley was pronounced dead at the scene.
“He was strong-minded, loyal, generous and funny. A keen fisherman, a skilled banger racer and a gifted car mechanic.”
The court heard that the fatal incident was the culmination of an ongoing conflict. Police confirmed that Sullingston had previously reported Mr Wigley to authorities following separate road rage clashes on 16 May and 5 June 2024.

What began as a simmering tension eventually erupted into a violent confrontation, ending in tragedy.
Mr Wigley’s grieving family paid heartfelt tribute to him following the sentencing.
“He is dearly missed by his seven children, his mum, dad, partner, sister and all his friends. He was well loved by all and would do anything for anyone.”
They also expressed gratitude to those who supported them during an unimaginably painful time.
Senior Investigating Officer, Detective Chief Inspector Natalie Pearce, condemned Sullingston’s actions as “inexcusable and unforgivable.”
“Sullingston deliberately drove at Mr Wigley, intending to cause harm, which ultimately resulted in his death.
His actions that day were inexcusable and unforgivable, and the fact that he has been imprisoned today for 13 years after being found guilty of manslaughter has ensured he has been brought to justice for the loss of another man’s life.” She extended her condolences to the family and friends left behind by the devastating incident.
This case serves as a harrowing reminder of how swiftly road rage can spiral out of control — with irreversible consequences. A moment of recklessness cost a man his life and left a family shattered.
Wayne Wigley leaves behind a legacy defined by loyalty, humour, and a deep devotion to his loved ones — a life cut short in a moment of fury.
