Buses Carrying Freed Palestinian Prisoners Arrive in Ramallah Amid Ceasefire Deal

A surge of emotion swept through Ramallah late Monday evening as the first motorcars carrying Palestinian captives rolled into the megacity under the recent armistice between Hamas and Israel.

The convoy, attended through checkpoints and saluted by cheering crowds, marked a significant moment in the unfolding peace arrangement

According to Al Jazeera’s correspondent, “buses carrying Palestinian prisoners released from Ofer prison arrived in Beitunia in Ramallah.”

The release followed reports from AFP before in the day attesting that several motorcars had departed from Israel’s Ofer captivity, positioned in the enthralled West Bank.

This internee exchange forms part of a delicate ceasefire brokered in the wake of months of violent conflict.

The deal, backed by US President Donald Trump, stipulates that Hamas will free 47 remaining Israeli hostages, both living and departed, in return for the release of 250 Palestinian detainees held in Israeli prisons.

The agreement also includes the freeing of 1,700 Palestinians detained in Gaza since the ruinous October 2023 war.

The scenes in Ramallah were filled with relief, gashes, and conservative sanguinity. Families gripped photos of their loved ones, signaling flags and chanting taglines of adaptability.

After weeks of query, the sight of the motorcars entering Beitunia brought both stopgap and heartache, a memorial of the deep scars left by the conflict.

The exchange underscores ongoing sweats to stabilize pressures in the region, though questions remain about the long-term sustainability of the ceasefire.

Judges suggest that while this rearmost step is an advance, both sides face immense pressure to maintain the fragile peace.

For many in Ramallah, still, tonight’s moment was deeply particular, a reunion long awaited, and a regard, still faint, of freedom returning home.
