Exam Results Day Brings Boost in Pass Rates Across Scotland
It’s a nerve-racking morning for around 147,000 young people as they receive their exam results across the country.
Students sitting Nationals, Highers, and Advanced Highers have begun finding out how they performed, with many waking up early to check emails and text messages from the Scottish Qualifications Authority (SQA).
Official figures show a modest but promising rise in attainment rates compared to last year. National 5 results saw an A-C attainment of 78.4%, up from 77.2%. Higher pass rates climbed to 75.9%, and Advanced Highers reached 76.7%, marking consistent improvements across all levels.
It’s not all smooth sailing, though. Some students in Orkney are reporting delays and missing results, causing understandable anxiety.
Text messages and emails were due to start arriving at 08:00 for those who activated their MySQA accounts. Others will have to rely on the post and their usual delivery times, to learn how they did.
Support is in place. The SQA’s candidate advice line is live at 0345 279 1000, ready to help with any issues. Meanwhile, Skills Development Scotland is on hand with career guidance via 0808 100 8000.
Though it’s a day filled with nerves, many are breathing a sigh of relief with the upward trend in grades. A glimmer of optimism, perhaps, for both students and educators alike.
