CD PROJEKT RED has officially confirmed the return to the dystopian world of Night City, unveiling Cyberpunk: Edgerunners 2 during a panel at this year’s Anime Expo.
The announcement marks the beginning of Cyberpunk Edgerunners Season 2, promising an electrifying new narrative.
Reuniting once again with the iconic animation house TRIGGER, the creators are working on a new, standalone anime set in the universe of Cyberpunk 2077.
This follow-up series promises an entirely fresh story, disconnected from the original but grounded in the same neon-soaked chaos fans have come to adore.

The event, held between 2nd and 6th July, featured a deep dive into the making of the original anime. Attendees enjoyed behind-the-scenes anecdotes and creative discussions during the live panel titled “Cyberpunk: Edgerunners — Behind the Scenes With Its Creators.”
A notable moment came when Bartosz Sztybor announced the ongoing collaboration with TRIGGER to bring the second instalment to life.
Alongside director Imaishi, he showcased exclusive artwork and officially handed the reins over to Kai Ikarashi, who delivered a heartfelt message via video, outlining his passion and direction for the sequel.
“David’s story might be over, but there’s plenty more to discover in Night City. And to again have the legendary animation studio TRIGGER along for the ride makes us at CD PROJEKT RED so excited to introduce a raw, real chronicle of redemption and revenge, something unlike what we’ve done before,” said Sztybor.
Joining the creative team are lead character designer Kanno Ichigo (Promare, Cyberpunk: Edgerunners) and Masahiko Otsuka (Gurren Lagann, Promare), who is helming the screenplay adaptation.
The announcement concluded with an invite-only preview of teaser footage held at the Peacock Theater, further fuelling excitement for Cyberpunk Edgerunners Season 2.
