Brighton Turn Down Man Utd’s Player-Plus-Cash Bid for Carlos Baleba
Brighton & Hove Albion have rebuffed Manchester United’s opening approach for midfielder Carlos Baleba, despite the Red Devils offering a cash sum alongside a player in the deal.
United remain hopeful. The Old Trafford side believes that agreeing personal terms with Baleba won’t be a stumbling block, with sources close to the player suggesting he is keen on the switch.
Whether Brighton are willing to part ways with their promising midfielder, however, is another matter entirely.
The bid’s rejection leaves United with a decision, return with an improved offer or risk losing ground in the chase. Chelsea are also circling. The West London club’s interest in Baleba adds further tension to the transfer saga.
In another twist in the market, United and Chelsea are both said to be considering a move for Gianluigi Donnarumma. The Italian goalkeeper was left out of Paris Saint-Germain’s 22-man squad for the UEFA Super Cup, sparking speculation over his future.
Meanwhile, Manchester City’s stance on Brazilian winger Savinho is clear. “Man City are only interested in selling Savinho if he is keen to move. If that is the case, City would want more than £50m to let him join Tottenham,” according to reports.
Elsewhere, Newcastle United are pressing ahead in their pursuit of Brentford striker Yoane Wissa. A deal is expected to be concluded this week, with the Magpies also inquiring about Porto’s Samu Agüero.
Off the pitch, former England winger John Barnes faces fresh financial troubles. Reports claim he has amassed more than £1.5 million in unpaid debts, placing him under renewed bankruptcy threat.
The footballing world was also hit with tragic news as racing driver Robbie Brewer died after suffering a medical emergency during a weekend event.
On a lighter note, goalkeeper Dean Henderson earned hero status in more ways than one. Following his penalty shoot-out heroics in the Community Shield win over Liverpool, the keeper “put £1,000 behind the bar at a local pub” to thank supporters.
As the summer window heats up, the Baleba saga is shaping into one of the most-watched transfer battles in the Premier League. With Brighton holding firm and Chelsea lurking, Manchester United’s next move could be decisive.
