PSG’s Summer Transfer Plans: Major Squad Overhaul

PSG’s Summer Transfer Plans Take Shape as Chelsea Defeat Sparks Urgent Overhaul

Paris Saint-Germain’s ambitions are being redrawn after a sobering blow in the Club World Cup final. Their 3-0 loss to Chelsea wasn’t just a defeat—it was a statement. One that left no room for doubt: this squad, even as Champions of Europe, has cracks that need urgent repair.

Now, PSG’s summer transfer plans are gathering serious momentum.

The loss has reportedly prompted urgent internal meetings at Parc des Princes. Sources close to the club suggest a list of seven new players is already on the table. That’s right—seven fresh signings are being lined up to reshape Luis Enrique’s side before the new season kicks off.

“The defeat to Chelsea has activated the alarm bells at Parc des Princes,” one insider confirmed.

Let’s start at the back. While the club isn’t hunting for a new goalkeeper unless Gianluigi Donnarumma makes a surprise exit, the defence is in for a shake-up. Manchester United are circling, watching Donnarumma’s contract situation closely. Chelsea? They’ve reportedly backed away.

Centre-backs are a priority. PSG are eyeing Illya Zabarnyi, with whispers of a €60 million move from Bournemouth gathering pace. If Lucas Beraldo departs—PSG want nothing less than €30 million for him—a left-footed replacement is expected.

With Milan Skriniar possibly on his way out and doubts surrounding Presnel Kimpembe and Lucas Hernandez, expect defensive business soon.

Back-up options for Achraf Hakimi and Nuno Mendes are virtually non-existent. PSG knows it. So they’re hunting for two new full-backs—one for each side. No names yet, but the intent is clear: depth, pace, and reliability.

Midfield won’t see a major shake-up. Joao Neves, Fabian Ruiz, and Vitinha are staying. But the club wants a seasoned head in there too. Think someone with the presence of Joshua Kimmich.

He’s off the list after re-committing to Bayern, but the profile PSG are after remains the same—experienced, calm, and controlling.

Sporting director Luis Campos isn’t hiding his ambitions up front. Two names dominate the list: Victor Osimhen and Rafael Leao. Osimhen’s situation is fluid, especially with Galatasaray pushing hard, but PSG haven’t backed off.

Talks are still open. Meanwhile, Rafael Leao continues to be seen as a transformative addition. “Contacts have not been broken off, despite Galatasaray’s more insistent approach for the Nigerian centre forward.”

With just over six weeks until the summer transfer window slams shut, club president Nasser Al-Khelaifi is said to be fully behind Enrique’s rebuild. The pre-season kicks off soon, and it’s no gentle start—PSG will face Tottenham in the UEFA Super Cup final on August 13.

The message from Paris is loud and clear. Winning the Champions League once isn’t enough. PSG want more. And if this summer’s aggressive plans are any indication, they’re not here to mess about.
