Northern line passengers face delays due to the London Underground disruption
Angel Underground Station, one of the busiest stops on the Northern line, is dealing with ongoing disruption after Transport for London (TfL) confirmed the station is currently open for exit only.
The restriction has caused delays in the area and added pressure to the wider London Underground network.
In its latest update, TfL states: “Reduced escalator service – there is no down escalator in service from the ticket hall due to a fault.”
It also adds: “Exit Only – Angel: This station is open for exit only while we fix a faulty escalator. Tickets are being accepted on London Buses.”
With the down escalator out of action, entry has been restricted for safety reasons. Passengers can still leave the station, but those starting their journey at Angel will need to use alternative transport options, including nearby Tube stops and local buses. London Buses are accepting Tube tickets to support affected travellers.
Commuters Share Frustration Over Angel Station Disruption
Travellers have taken to X to express their annoyance at the sudden change. One user wrote: “Well, that is not fun. Wdym Angel station is exit only… I’m gonna have to go on a side quest to get home post concert”.
Another added: Just when you’re in a tearing hurry, @TfL decides to close Angel Tube station ‘for escalator repairs’.
I hope they don’t take as long as the escalator replacement on the Bank to Monument interchange – scheduled for some reason to take an incredible whole year!!
How Long Will Angel Underground Stay Exit-Only?
TfL has not yet confirmed when the station will fully reopen. Engineers are currently on-site working to repair the faulty escalator, and TfL says normal service will return “as soon as possible”.
In the meantime, passengers should check TfL travel updates, allow extra time for their journey, and consider alternative routes around Angel.
