Residers across northern Israel were left shaken on Wednesday morning as a magnitude 5.7 earthquake struck near Paphos, Cyprus.
According to the European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre, the earthquake hit at 1131 a.m., causing a tremor that could be felt in metropolises including Haifa, Tiberias, and Nazareth.

In Safed, locals reported the earthquake was strong enough to move kitchen tables, with one occupant saying, “The whole room shook, it was quite a surprise!” Despite the agitating experience, there have been no reported injuries or structural damage, officers verified.
This Cyprus earthquake comes just six months after a more significant earthquake of 6.2 magnitude near the Greece-Turkey border was felt in Israel.
While Wednesday’s earthquake was milder, experts remind residents to stay on alert for foreshocks and other seismic activity in the region.
