Storm Benjamin Leaves Over 1,000 Homes Without Power in Suffolk
Residents across Suffolk are waking up to a knockout as Storm Benjamin batters the region with fierce winds and heavy rain.
UK Power Networks has reported that more than 1,000 homes are presently affected. The largest outage, impacting 883 homes, spans the IP23 7 and IP23 8 postcode areas, covering Eye, Stoke Ash, and Southolt.
A spokesman confirmed, “It was first reported at 7.10am and is being caused by a fault with an overhead line.” He added that power restoration is expected between 9am and 10am.
Meanwhile, another outage is affecting 293 homes in the IP2 8, IP6 0, and IP6 9 postcode areas near Coddenham, Otley Green, and Tuddenham.
A spokeswoman explained, “We became aware at 7.09am. This cut was also caused by an overhead fault.” Engineers are on-site, with services expected to return between 8.30am and 9.30am.
The timing of these faults coincides with unheroic rainfall warnings issued across the county, warning of breezy winds and heavy downfall as Storm Benjamin sweeps through.
