UK Weather: 20°C Heatwave to Hit Britain as October Begins, Met Office Issues Key Update
Britain is gearing up for an unexpected burst of autumn warmth, with forecasters predicting a Met Office weather surge of up to 20°C in parts of the country as October kicks off.
The heat spike is set to bring a late taste of summer sunshine, but experts warn it won’t last for long.
According to the latest WXCharts data, Wednesday, 1 October, is anticipated to deliver the warmest conditions.
Southern and south-eastern regions look set to lounge in golden skies, with London, Luton and Southampton probably to eclipse the list at an affable 20 °C.
Metropolises similar to Norwich, Birmingham, and Worcester could see highs of 19°C, while Cardiff, Manchester, Liverpool, and Stoke are anticipated to hang around 18 °C.
This sunny spell will feel worlds apart from the cooler, breezier conditions in the north and west.
Areas including Newcastle, Belfast, and Glasgow will experience a milder 14 °C to 15 °C, with stronger winds sweeping through western beachfronts.
A Met Office prophet said the launch of the month will see a “northwest- southeast split,” with “ rain and strong winds likely in northwestern regions, while the southeast remains largely dry and bright.”
While the south enjoys a transitory warm-up, foretellers are keeping a close eye on Hurricane Humberto.
Although the storm is anticipated to lose its tropical force as it pushes into the North Atlantic, it could still disrupt UK rainfall patterns.
The system may trigger “a more unsettled and windy spell around the first weekend of October,” the Met Office warned.
Beyond this weekend, confidence in the long-term outlook remains shaky. Atlantic storms may continue to drive bouts of wet and windy rainfall, particularly across northern Britain.
Southern counties, meanwhile, might hold onto drier days but could face chilly nights and thick fog as the afterlife deepens.
Despite the brewing unsettled spell, temperatures overall are expected to stay close to or slightly above seasonal par.
For many, the forthcoming warm swell offers a final, welcome flash of summer warmth before the darker, colder days of October set in.
