A routine morning turned tense and tragic in Floyd County as a Virginia man was fatally shot during a police confrontation. The incident, which unfolded near Harold on Monday, is now under investigation by Kentucky State Police (KSP).
According to KSP officials, the drama began shortly before 8 a.m. when Post 9 in Pikeville received a call reporting a suspicious man near KY-680 East. Witnesses said the man was trying to enter multiple vehicles and was persistently asking strangers for a ride at a local business.
When a trooper arrived at the scene, the man later identified as 33-year-old Henry Foster of Raven, Virginia reportedly brandished a firearm and made threats to harm himself.
“He pulled out a firearm and threatened to harm himself.” Reinforcements, including additional troopers and other local law enforcement, quickly descended on the scene. A negotiation effort was launched in hopes of peacefully resolving the situation.
For nearly two hours, officers tried to de-escalate the tense stand-off.
Tragic Turn of Events
Around 10 a.m., the confrontation took a fatal turn. A trooper discharged his weapon, striking Foster. Despite rapid medical attention and life-saving efforts at the scene, Foster succumbed to his injuries.
“Despite life-saving efforts at the scene, Foster died from his injuries.” No other individuals were harmed during the incident.
