Nexo and DP World Tour Team Up to Launch Groundbreaking Crypto Prize for Golfers
A bold new initiative is shaking up the professional golfing scene in the UK, as digital finance platform Nexo and the DP World Tour unveil an innovative prize designed to blend the competitive edge of golf with the fast-evolving world of cryptocurrency.
The launch of the “Course Record Presented by Nexo” marks a significant step in the tour’s move towards modernisation and alternative rewards.
Kicking off at the Nexo Championship, which tees off 7–10 August at the newly unveiled Trump International Golf Links in Aberdeen, this rolling prize will reward players who not only set but maintain the course record by the tournament’s close.
Here’s the twist: the incentive isn’t a one-off. If no new course record stands by the end of the event, the prize rolls over to the next eligible tournament, increasing in value.
It begins with a $10,000 base prize, but also includes an impressive $50,000 in NEXO Tokens for players who manage a record-breaking performance. The stakes get higher with every rollover.
So far, 2024 has seen 10 course records set, with six already achieved in 2025. The new Nexo prize structure hopes to push that number even higher.
“The Course Record marks the first recurring prize of its kind in golf,” said Antoni Trenchev, Co-founder of Nexo. “It combines performance-driven incentives with the reach and upward potential of digital assets.
This is a milestone in our shared vision with the DP World Tour for innovation in professional golf.” The excitement isn’t just limited to players. The Tour’s leadership sees the new format as a fan magnet too.
“We’re always looking for new ways to celebrate and reward the incredible talent on the Tour,” added Ben Cowen, Chief Tournament and Operations Officer of the DP World Tour.
“The Course Record Presented by Nexo does just that, and adds excitement for fans as players push harder to claim the prize.”
To ensure fairness, several rules are in place. The prize is only valid for events played on a single course and requires at least 36 holes to be completed, even in cases of weather delays. Rounds played with preferred lies? Disqualified from consideration.
The Nexo Championship itself follows a lavish launch gala on 29 July, hosted by the Trump family and attended by Nexo’s top executives. The event also marks a strategic moment for Scotland’s golf tourism sector, already worth over $400 million annually.
The collaboration builds on Nexo’s growing presence in the sport. In July, the company inked a multi-year deal to become the official digital wealth platform and marketing partner of the DP World Tour, running through 2027.
This latest move cements their shared commitment to fusing tradition with tech, offering golf fans and players something genuinely fresh.
