Brockenhurst Rail Closures to Disrupt Travel in September

Brockenhurst Rail Lines to Shut for September Weekend: Major Disruption Expected

Travellers in Hampshire are being warned to brace for significant rail disruption this September, as engineering works will bring services to a halt across Brockenhurst and surrounding areas.

Network Rail has confirmed a full closure of railway lines through Brockenhurst on Saturday, 13 September, followed by wider suspensions across both the Southampton and Brockenhurst corridors on Sunday, 14 September.

On Saturday, long-distance trains from London Waterloo to Weymouth will be cut short, terminating at Brockenhurst. Commuters can expect additional stops at Woking for some services. Meanwhile, trains between Southampton Central and Bournemouth will also end at Brockenhurst.

To keep passengers moving, many rail-replacement buses will be in service:

  • Non-stop buses between Southampton Airport Parkway and Bournemouth
  • Non-stop buses from Southampton Central to Bournemouth
  • A shuttle route linking Brockenhurst and Bournemouth
  • A revised train service operating from Bournemouth through Poole to Weymouth

Local routes aren’t spared either. The Brockenhurst to Lymington line will be completely suspended, with buses replacing trains along that stretch.

Sunday won’t bring much relief. That day, London Waterloo to Weymouth services will only go as far as Southampton Airport Parkway.

Morning and early afternoon trains to Poole and Portsmouth via Eastleigh will no longer split at Eastleigh; instead, they’ll continue straight to Portsmouth Harbour. Later, London to Poole trains won’t run at all.

To soften the blow, a fleet of express buses will step in:

  • Fast coaches between Eastleigh, Southampton Airport Parkway and Bournemouth
  • Rapid connections from Southampton Central to Bournemouth, stopping at Christchurch
  • Additional routes linking Eastleigh and Bournemouth via Brockenhurst and Southampton Central

Once again, no trains will run between Brockenhurst and Lymington, with replacement buses taking over the route.

A spokesperson for South Western Railway urged passengers to plan ahead and check timetables before they travel: “We understand the inconvenience these works may cause, but they’re essential for maintaining a safe and reliable railway for the future.”

The September weekend closures are part of an ongoing investment to improve infrastructure across the south-west rail network, but they come at a cost for weekend travellers.

Whether you’re planning a trip to the coast, heading back to university, or just visiting family, best to double-check before setting off. Trains may not be where you expect them to be—at least not in Brockenhurst.
